It's Halloween again! Almost! Jestress has been hard at work on this year's Halloween story, and Learjet just helped me finish the up the editing. Thanks, learjet! I just posted the first chapters today, and there's more to come. I meant to finish up a little earlier, but this story ended up much longer than I thought it would. Anyway, the first chapters are up, and you can expect 2 or 3 more a day until Halloween. www.fanfiction.net/s/11574956/1/The-Ghost-of-Ransom-CreekNow: pumpkin cookies! The sheer bliss of knowing we get something every day AND you're bringing us pumpkin cookies? Could this day get any better?

What a treat to read this first! It's a great story, Jestress!! Have pumpkin cookies got puree'ed pumpkin instead of butter? Are those M&Ms?

If they didn't have oats, there would be nothing healthy about them whatsoever! They have both chocolate chips inside and M&Ms on top! Well, maybe the pumpkin's healthy, too. I don't know. I posted the link to the recipe awhile back in the recipe section.

There must be something in the water this weekend. I've never seen so many stories hit fanfiction.net on a Monday morning, and most of them rated T and above. LOL.

For anyone who's wondering, the T rating on my story is probably a little higher than necessary. I err on the side of caution. Yesterday, I started wondering how many people are going to be a little disappointed about that. These new stories might be a clue.

I find the lower ratings odd because I'm not sure what really makes the cut from K to K+ and sometimes feel there should still be something in between.

I don't 'see' the M rated stories at fanfic unless I look directly at the author's profile. Does that happen to anyone else?? Having said that, I'm usually quite happy to stick with T and below (TMI in many of the M-rated stories : . The ratings are so subjective and I suspect say more about the authors than anything else

I find the lower ratings odd because I'm not sure what really makes the cut from K to K+ and sometimes feel there should still be something in between. Like learjet says, the ratings are pretty subjective. The guidelines for the ratings are vague enough that it leaves a lot to the authors to decide, and even then there are some stories that kind of ignore the guidelines anyway. I've found T stories that really sound more like M or MA. The fact that some people consider them more T says something about what they're used to. I've debated about K vs. K+ also. I base it partly on swear words (K if there are none, K+ if there are couple) and partly on the violence level (K if there's really nothing violent, K+ if someone is killed or seriously threatened but it isn't graphically described, T would be if the violence was more graphic). But, that's just how I figure it. Sometimes, it's kind of hard to call it.

The default for the fanfic page is K-T ratings, so you have to go to the filter button at the top and select "Ratings: All" to see everything. I agree that yes some of the M stories are a bit more explicit than I expect some days, but some authors use the rating if they feel it's serious or violent subject matter. I'm not always in the mood for that either, but some of them are very good, even if not very SMK-y. The latest one has a line about Lee reading military history books, so either they're a fan of Pharaoh's Engineer as well or they've been reading JWWM methinks.

Not sure how much overlap there is of people here and on he FB fanfic site, but I've added a few stories over the last week or so that might make you laugh. I'm travelling next week and will only have my Ipad so my contributions to fanfiction.net will also be on a go-slow. If you want to read them, it's probably easiest to just find them under my pen name Clagjanet. They're all K ratings by the way ;-)

I just submitted the SMK story I wrote for Halloween on Inkitt for their fan fiction contest: www.inkitt.com/fandom2?sort=latestInkitt is geared for novel-length stories, and it's the longest story I had, the only one really long enough to apply. But, I was surprised that my story is the only SMK story on the site. I call upon my fellow fan fiction writers to help fill the void! Novel-length stories are hard, I know, and take a lot of time, but it's something to shoot for. Spread the word!

I entered the contest pretty near the end of the deadline for entries, and I don't really expect to win, but if I get some votes and reviews, it will be enough to establish a presence on the site. Besides, there need to be SMK stories there!

The fan fiction novel contest I entered is closed now, but they've started a new one for shorter stories, at least 2000 words. www.inkitt.com/fandom3I'm not particularly concerned about winning, but it struck me as an interesting challenge, and there still need to be more SMK stories on this site.
