Oh, Iwsod, that comparison cracked me up. It is so perfect even down to the red bow. ... Morley: it makes me think of totallylookslike.com Another fanfic codename for Amanda that I like (can't remember the fanfic name/author - I'll post it if I remember it): Phoenix (Totally suits her situation - beautiful bird rising from the ashes of her marriage to Joe...)

iwsod, that Francine and Cowardly Lion pic is killing me! I wasn't ready for it and just howled out loud. When the series first started and we hadn't gotten to "We're Off To See The Wizard" I thought that at some point Amanda might be given the code name Dorothy, especially since we didn't know anything about the Oz network, etc. And in the book and the movie Scarecrow and Dorothy seem to have a more special connection to each other than the other characters. She meets him first and they spent more time together. I'm still thinking on what would be a good code name. I have read some of the fanfics about them and didn't like some of them. Maybe Panda could be a good one. It was what she was called as a child and Lee did give her that huge one after The ACM Kid. Just a thought.

Re Wizard of Oz Code names. Paul Barns gave his team their Oz code names. Francine was not part of the Oz network. I am not sure where I got the impression that Francine's code name was Princess and she did not like it. Another Amanda code name from fanfic: Blue Wire "Blue Wire" ! I really like that, a very good code name for Amanda. And Francince's code name should then be "Barbed Wire" !

Fanfiction.net writer Rouch came up with the codename Ojo from L. Frank Baum's The Patchwork Girl of Oz. Ojo was first named Ojo the unlucky, because he was left handed and trouble followed him like a black cloud. Then his luck changed and his name changed to Ojo the lucky when it was known that he was able to get out of the trouble he got into by imaginative and unorthodox means. That fits Amanda to a tee.

Amanda needs the code name Panda. Her mother called her that as a child. Also, Lee gives her the stuffed panda at the end of ACM Kid. Panda is also how Joe and Dotty get a message to Amanda in Stemwinder pt 2. I also think it’s an adorable name that suits her.

I think I posted under the blog, but I'll post it here now that I see the discussion. I always felt like there was something very personal about getting a code name, kind of like military pilots getting their call signs on JAG. Lee made the comment about how Paul was the one to give him his code name. Which in turn makes me think it's kind of telling that we never hear Francine given one given how obnoxious she can be. Almost like she was never close enough to get one, but it might have just been because she's more of an office than field agent too.
In which case it also makes sense that Amanda wouldn't have gotten one until at least S4 when she was promoted to full-time agent. I'd love to have had them include a scene or two about it.
