I am here trying to learn the lingo! No one has mentioned the origin of backgammon- any explanations? It's from the episode called Remembrance of Things Past. justwalkwithme.com/2012/02/14/14-season-one-episode-11-rememberance-of-things-past/Francine's telling Lee and Billy about the agent who's just been murdered, and while she's giving his basic profile, she starts listing all of his skills, "Good in the kitchen, on the tennis court, on the dance floor, and in b-" She just stops when she hits the word that starts with 'B', and when Lee asks her what she was going to say, she says that the guy was good at backgammon. They sort of imply that she had once had a love affair with the guy and had been kind of thinking aloud while she was talking and almost forgot that Lee and Billy were listening until she almost said something embarrassing. Lee guesses that the word she was originally thinking of was "bed" and teases her about it. On a related note, I was at a thrift store earlier this week with a friend, and when we spotted a backgammon set, I said, "I'd like to try backgammon sometime, but I've never been able to figure out the rules." Then, I immediately felt weird because I was having SMK flashbacks. Thankfully, it's only a double entendre in the SMK world. It's messing with my mind. O.o

Then, I immediately felt weird because I was having SMK flashbacks. Thankfully, it's only a double entendre in the SMK world. It's messing with my mind. O.o A male friend, Jestress? Sadly, yes. But, it gets even funnier than that. Remember I was talking about historical games? Well, the Egyptian game Senet that I found the set for at the book sale is actually an early form of backgammon, and I started explaining it. I added that it's weird how I don't seem to have any problem understanding ancient backgammon but the modern one confuses me. It just seems like there are so many more rules and strategies. The game has gotten more complex. And I was hearing the double entendres in my head the whole time, although anybody who doesn't know the SMK joke wouldn't hear anything wrong with that. Actually, there really isn't anything wrong with it, but like with all running gags, the more times you say the word and think about the joke, the funnier it sounds. I'll figure out the rules eventually, but I might need another dose of mind bleach to get through them.

As long as your male companion didn't know what you were thinking about jestress . I've seen a few backgammon boards recently which make me think of Lee and Francine. Noooooooo!

Yah, doesn't Lee kinda grin at Francine and go like "been some time since we last played backgammon together"?

This backgammon discussion is so right on time. Just today we had the kids start cleaning out desks and lockers. The teacher in the classroom next to mine started having this big fit about something and it interrupted what I was saying to my students. He was going on and on about his backgammon set and how it was in good condition and didn't want it damaged and it wasn't supposed to be taken from the room. What's so funny is that this teacher never seems to get bent out of shape about anything the students do and is a bit too permissive and then blows up at the smaller stuff. This was one of those times. Of course I got distracted and had SMK on my mind. My students were wondering why I kept pausing in what I was saying.
