I've actually got one of those and have had it since I was a young girl. (Sorry, I was raised on country and bluegrass with a little rock-n-roll thrown in.) Still haven't mastered it, though.

Afaik, it's also a traditional instrument here in Bavaria. It's called "Maultrommel" in German.

That does sound more like the UN instrument than what I listened to on youtube. There seem to be a lot of variations on these mouth instruments - I suppose you can't tune them like you would a more structurally complex instrument and maybe the materials vary depending on who makes them, which may account for the differences in the sound. I'm just really grateful that no-one plays on in my house. It's up there (or down there) with the bagpipes for me
