Hi everyone, This is such a very good question and I keep thinking about it every time a watch SMK ever since I read the question some month ago. And for me I can now definitely answer it is Season 1 and with saying this I really mean almost every episode within Season 1. And I think this is for the following reasons: Firstly I fell in love with SMK with “The first Time” I don’t know how A&L would see that, but I fell in love at first sight. Then I feel that the first season had special kind of chemistry and magic, a German Poet said once “A magic dwells in each beginning”. I think he was right. Another reason is that I am a big Amanda Fan and I find her most appealing and least frumpy (I did not mind the hair bands in the first season. When I was watching SMK the first time back in the 80s, I was unlike most of the other female fans not a Lee Fan in the first place ( I really was a late bloomer ;o) , but I was a big Fan of Amanda in terms of a role model, I wanted to be like her, when I was little, she is beautiful, smart, brave and accidently funny. Which leads me to the next point why I love Season 1 so much, it is for the Comedy. In every episode, there is at least one scene to laugh out loud. I really miss that in later episodes. So it was not that difficult for me to pick a favorite season, but to pick one favorite episode is almost not possible. Having selected Season 1 as favorite Season I would add three favorite episodes from the other Seasons to my selection which are: Ship of Spies (everybody knows for what reason ) A lovely little affair (I always found this kind of the perfect SMK episode, exciting, romantic and funny) Nightcrawler ( I really love the proposal scene and the tag) So that’s it. In case you find some sentences or words weird, please don’t be surprised. Usually I speak German not English.

I know people who can only speak English but can't write it as well as you do. I like what you said "A magic dwells in each beginning." I like the episode The First Time for the same reasons. My favorite episodes change from time to time, but The First Time is definitely one of them. I also like: Fearless Dotty (for Dotty's cluelessness but also for Lee's concern for Amanda in that episode) Odds on a Dead Pigeon (also for Lee's concern for Amanda and how he can tell the difference between her and the imposter) Life of the Party (because it gives Amanda a chance to save the day and teach Francine a thing or two) Ship of Spies (for obvious reasons ) One Bear Dances, One Bear Doesn't (Dotty gets a taste of what Amanda's been up to and even sees her in action, yet she still doesn't know Amanda is a spy. There's also a couple of sweet moments between Lee and Amanda) Which season I like best also changes depending on my mood, but I think that the first season is really my overall favorite because I like beginnings.

Welcome to Ned's, Mara! Wow, we have a lot in common in this topic! I am an Amanda fan too, for the same reasons as you I suppose. I respect Amanda immensely as a person. To me, she embodies the type of person I would like to be. She has so many positive character traits. She definitely is not a perfect person, but the kind of person that makes you not mind their faults or shortcomings. Season 1 is hands down my fave season too. I could watch the First Time a million times and never get sick of it. But I love Service Above and Beyond because it has the most awesomest tag ever! It is funny that I would like it because I am not a romantic or mushy person. But that tag can take anyone who is not romantic and make them wish they were!
Plus I am currently learning German. I am hoping that I will be able to visit Germany one day and that maybe my command of the German language will be in decent condition by then!

Thank you swissmiss, glad to hear that you also an Amanda fan. You expressed your and also my reasons for it much more nicely as I would have been able to do it. Are there any other Amanda fans out there? I mean of course I love them both and SMK is so great because of the chemistry of Lee and Amanda, but as said I always have been an Amanda fan. But I guess if we would do a poll or something we would be on the short end . And of course the tag in Service Above and Beyond is awesome ; another reason why Season 1 is my favorite. Wow, you are learning German; I assume that must be pretty hard? I do sometimes still struggle with German . When I first read your nickname I was thinking that you are probably from Switzerland (and already be able to speak German), but the other day I saw in the supermarket an American product I think it was Hot Chocolate which was called swissmiss. So I assume your name refers more to this than to Switzerland … If I can be of any help with your German studies please let me know...

I'm having a bad week, so I'm going to indulge myself by contemplating this: My favourite season is a toss up between season one (so funny) and three (great character development and the romantic tension...) Having said that, I think my favourite episodes are from season 4 (Stemwinders, Bad Timing and Nightcrawler) and my favourite romantic scene is also in season 4 - the vows in Do you Take this spy. I think that this is the most beautiful wedding scene I have ever seen - it's better than any "real" wedding I've seen. I actually find it hard to watch because it is so full of emotion. It makes me wish I had eloped (so it had just been me and him - my husband, not Lee!) and want to renew our vows, just the two of us (even though that's not my normal style).
So best episodes: Season 1: There Goes the Neighbourhood (2nd place to SAAB and the Long Christmas Eve) Season 2: Burnout (and 2nd place to DOA) Season 3:The Triumvirate or The Eyes Have It (could hardly think for next 24 hours after watching them back to back) Season 4: Bad Timing

I have been mulling these questions over for a couple of weeks. Today I went to Wikipedia and printed a episode list. I took four different highlighters and went through the list.
Favorites:
S1 - 6 S2 - 9 S3 - 6 S4 - 5
Likes:
S1 - 6 S2 - 7 S3 - 9 S4 - 9
Okay:
S1 - 7 S2 - 7 S3 - 7 S4 - 6
Dislikes:
S1 - 2 S2- 0 S3 - 0 S4 - 2
Of my season 1 favorites Service Above and Beyond (obvious reason) and Saved by The Bells are tied. I loved Lee committing treason for Amanda to save her. Then I loved Amanda for going back to save hem. I loved Amanda being confused for the Scarecrow. "You can learn from her. She's the best." Yes, she is the best and I am glad that it took Lee three seasons to build a foundation for learning this.
In season 2 my top favorite is Burn Out. Amanda was staunchly loyal to Lee and he finally recognizes it. Plus you got to love Trevor and the smell of diesel in the morning.
season 3 I have to mention my very favorite tag. "Hey Toots." It makes me smile every time. The Eyes Have It is at the top of my season 3 favorites as Amanda is, "the one who helps me the most."
Bad Timing is at the top of my season 4 favorites. For better or worse they are sticking together even before the wedding I did not like the Nick Grant case. The wedding kept this episode off my dislike list.
Dislikes? I was surprised to find that there were only four episodes that I dislike. I must add an aside to say that over the many times that I have watched the episodes, I have found things to like in every episode including these least favorite episodes.
Season 1 Lost and Found. I really can't stand Eva. Weekend. I was not happy with Amanda for not giving Lee the opportunity to nap. He wasn't asking her to sleep with him for pities sake!
Season 4 Suitable for Framing and A Matter of Choice. I hated the whole thing with Brody.

I finally made it here...I kept reading on JWWM about going over to Nedlingers so I figured I would check it out. Now I know I am really behind, but I'm gonna just jump right in. Gosh that is a tough question, all of the seasons have great eps. Favorite season hands down is S2 because of all the beautiful countries we got to see while they travel, gorgeous Lee in S2 and then there is the "hand holding"...Yes they held hands more in S2 than all of them put together . Favorite S2 episodes have to be Ship of Spies for swooniness... and for comic relief it has to be D.O.A...... love the blow dryer that she thinks is a gun and she is loading it with AA batteries - Least favorite ep in S2 is car wars...it's just dumb. Love season 3 too I call it the falling in love and realization season. Favorite Ep is Triumvirate for all of the steamy looks that Lee gives Amanda and the hand grab in the elevator. (It takes so Little to please me). The least favorite Ep in S3 is Playing for Keeps, cause Amanda was barely in it. Now for S1...Favorite Ep- Remembrance of Things Past...I love the real friendship that they both experience, the true bereavement that Amanda goes through when she thinks she has lost her partner. I love the motel scene where they have to jump in the bed to keep from blowing their cover (funny stuff) Least favorite ep of S1 is a toss up between Waiting for Godorsky and that dang Lester the duck ....Godorsky - why would a princess need to have a yard sale, she should have other sources of funds to help her friend??? The whole plot was unbelievable to me....If Thoughts Could Kill....just the dumbest episode ever...in fact there is a similar scene in The New Adventures of Lois and Clark, I didn't like it either ....the only good part is when Amanda walks out of the room backwards and says, "Gee I'm not supposed to jump out of the cake for another hour"...that was so impromptu and UN Amanda like...funny stuff. S4 has to be Stemwinder 1 and 2 and Do You Take This Spy? For obvious reasons...I will still watch them all. All of the episodes have value some more than others...

Playing for keeps also really doesn't work for me (Amanda-lite) - and Lee's comment about pot pourri (while I like the sentiment he expresses) just feels really off

I know this is a weird thing, but I actually think that Playing for Keeps is right around the time that Amanda lets herself fall in love. Something about the way she responds in the tag just seems to be the moment where she lets it all go.

Something about the way she responds in the tag just seems to be the moment where she lets it all go. That's interesting. I would have thought it happened a bit sooner. Maybe I'll have to have a sneak peak at the tag ago (if I can sing loudly over the pot pourri line)

You know - for me as Francine fan that's a really tough one. If I go for those episodes that give her most screen time, I get "Life of the Party", "A Matter of Choice" and "Playing for Keeps", however ... (Attention, those who haven't watched all the episodes, yet. There might be spoilers ahead!) "A Matter of Choice" wouldn't be quite so bad if it weren't for Jonathan Stone. That guy doesn't even have to show up on screen - the mere mention of his name makes me cringe. Yah, I know, suspension of disbelief etc. I just find I simply can't suspend my disbelief quite THAT much (I think my first reaction to Jonathan was "Ok, what did you do to make Francine accept your proposal? Drug her? Brainwash her? Even Beaman would be more her type than you!"). It's an interesting episode from a background information point of view but all in all, I'd rather not watch it too often. As for "Playing for Keeps" - nope, don't like that one either. I don't mind seeing Francine working with Lee, it's just that, imho, she's trying too hard to convince him what a great team they are. In some scenes I'd really like to smack her and tell her to stop it already and go get another partner because that'll work much, much better. Lee's not interested in working with her - he wants to work with Amanda and that's pretty obvious in that episode. So - favourites? Not sure if I got one in the first season. I'll have to consider that again. As for the other seasons: - Life of the Party: For obvious reasons. Also, I like to see Francine and Amanda working together and I really think they make quite a good team. - Fast Food for Thought: The freezer scene - one of my favourite SMK scenes ever! And also the scene where I finally started to "get" Francine. Provides quite some food for thought for a fanfic writer like me. So she thinks she can't rely on anyone but herself, huh? How come? *insert sounds of little wheels starting to turn* - Wrong Number: Well - guess why ... Also, I know there's quite some folks out there who don't like it but I really find Amanda's and Lee's arguing hilarious (plus it shows what a long way Amanda has come - can you see her talking to Lee like that in Season 1 or 2?). - Santa's got a Brand new Bag: Two words: Effrom Beaman. XD I really like that guy. And I probably wouldn't hesitate to run away to Greece with him to raise goats. Might be fun. XD - Bad Timing: I just love how they all stick together here to save Lee.
