Hi everyone,
I was in college when SMK came out and because I had little time and had to share a TV, I didn't get to watch SMK much except for the last season. I got to see most of the episodes a year or two later when it aired on a local independent station. I still have the VHS tapes that I made. I nearly wore them out, especially season 3 (I'm an incurable romantic and loved watching their romance develop).
Oh, btw iwsod, I think your numbering of the episodes is pretty close because I went back and looked at my old tapes. My hubby bought me all four seasons last year and there seemed to be something odd about the order. I think when I recorded the tapes, the station aired them in production order rather than the order they were originally aired. For example, (once you get to ordering season 4), during UB, when Lee is drugged, I distinctly remember thinking that Amanda was going to ask Lee if he loved her, because that was the order I remember. That would have been weird since Stemwinder was aired first. However, I never saw the first run and my tapes have UB first. When I watched the DVD for the first time I was scratching my head wondering why UB was after the Stemwinder eps.
Anyway, my VHS tapes were gathering dust and I hadn't watched them for years. There is an interesting story about what sparked my interest again. I am an X-Men fan and write X-Men fanfic (never posted them on ff.net but I do beta other fics so if anyone is looking for a beta...). My favorite character is Nightcrawler. About a year ago I was doing an Internet search on Nightcrawler and stumbled on a forum discussion about the SMK episode Nightcrawler (pretty much my favorite ep of the whole series). That particular forum (I think it was a Yuku) was no longer very active but it was interesting reading. After Hubby bought me all four seasons for my birthday, I got hooked again. From there I started looking for other SMK websites and have read fanfic on several sites, one of which had links JWWM, and that brought me here.
Hi Shadoweddancer! I am jealous!! I would have loved to experience the show when it first aired.. it would have been wonderful to follow their journey!! Where were you watching smk? are you in USA? did you watch it on CBS? Isn't that interesting!!! confirmation that UB was before stemwinder!! Yeah when the JWWM walk gets to season 4, we'll definitely be watching UB before stemwinder - I did come up with an order for season 1 pretty much by myself Shadoweddancer, but since then I've not had time for it! lol!! so working out episode order is much more of a collaborative process - we discuss season 2 order as we walk through the season.. I haven't published a list for the JWWM season 2 preferred order yet - but it won't be my work alone that's for sure! Also, you'll find here on Nedlindger's there is an episode thread - where discussion has started to take place about season 3 order - check it out!!! and please feel free to share your ideas on the order!!! Here's the thread: nedlindgers.proboards.com/thread/57/episode-order When we get to season 4 please remind me to put UB first if I forget!! So glad you found us.. Nightcrawler is a fabulous episode!!! The season 4 episode I remember the most!! I haven't watched season 3 and 4 for a very long time (except the first 5 eps of season3) so when I blog them they are fresh and newish - so JWWM doesn't write about what's ahead of where the walk is up to. - if you have any questions about that feel free to ask .. Looking forward to hearing from you shadoweddancer! Your hubby buys fab presents!! Iwsod

Yeah when the JWWM walk gets to season 4, we'll definitely be watching UB before stemwinder - Yes, I am from the U.S.A, and did get to see some of the series when it first aired, when I could find the time and a TV between study sessions (Which I guess dates me lol). I'll try to remember to remind you about UB going before Stemwinder. I looked up the scripts and I think that UB predates Stemwinder in production order too. The third season is my favorite season so I'll try to find the time to make some comments. Thanks for taking the time to go through them with care. I see them with new eyes.

I distinctly remember that SMK was on a Tuesday night at 7pm. I used to get my mother's ancient portable radio out, tune it (manuallly of course) turn on the TV and the turn off the horrible voices of the dubbed actors. None of my family remembers me doing this, although it was quite a performance as I couldn't have been more than 10 or 11 at the time. (i've found an audiobook version of BB reading "message in the bottle" so I can listen to his gorgeous voice while I hang up the washing and drive to work) My enduring impression was that it was exciting and romantic (but somehow this didn't result in a crush on Lee). The funny thing is that as I have just hit 40 (!!), SMK has come to represent everything that was good and decent about the 80s - so much less graphic and more understated (both the action and the romance) that TV these days - almost like it represents my childhood.
Sent you an email, Iwsod

The 80's were a blur of working full time and going to college with little time for TV. A lecture was cancelled and when I got home I turned on the TV and channel surfed. Food for Thought was at the point when Lee was chasing the bad guy on the motorcycle. I continued on with my search and then came back to Amanda and Francine in the freezer so watched the rest of the episode. Unfortunately for me this had to be a rerun as I only saw a few more episodes before the show was cancelled. I remember Stemwinder part II, Billy's lost weekend, the last part of Night Crawler, and the last part of Do You Take This Spy.
Fast forward to four or five years ago. I was looking up Remington Steele on Hulu. They recommend other shows including Scarecrow and Mrs. King. Only problem was they only had a few episodes. Then I found SMK on Slash Control . It had all four seasons; however, some of the episodes were missing. I watched all the episodes and then went back to watch my favorites. After that I watched all of the episodes again and again and again. I did this for over a year. I came to find merit even in my least favorite episodes. I eventually bought all four DVDs

I was in high school when SMK aired. I only saw the episode I Am Not Now, Nor Have I Ever Been .... A Spy. I was more of Remington Steele, Hart to Hart and Matt Houston fan at that time.
I guess I rediscovered SMK when I discovered fanfiction and began writing for Remington Steele and later for SMK. I purchased the whole series on DVD and I was hooked. I guess I have always been fascinated by the male/female detective pairings of 80's television.

I remember watching some episodes of SMK when it first aired in Canada. I was married, working full time, young family, and a house. Not a lot of time left for TV.
Just recently rediscovered SMK through another spy series, Chuck, which we started watching on netflix. Discovered they used Amanda's house from SMK as Chuck and Sara's dream house. When we finished the Chuck series I searched for SMK series. Found entire episodes on YouTube before they were removed. After watching a few, I ordered S1 and was hooked. It wasn't long before I ordered the rest of the series. Ending left me feeling sad. Those last episodes were so not Lee and Amanda. Their relationship seemed "forced". Gone was the playful loving couple. Not sure if it was due to writers of the show or missing chemistry between BB and KJ.
I have always been a BB/KJ fan. While checking the internet to see where these actors are now, I discovered several SMK fan sites including fan fiction sites, Nedlingers, JWWM, Chance Encounters (2 great SMK/Chuck crossover stories where Lee discovers his look-a-like).
I'm really enjoying Nedlingers and JWWM.

Some of the parallels between the two series are very interesting - I think there's a brief thread here discussing it at Neds. I also felt very sad at the end of the series. I've only watched the episodes from "Mission of Gold" onwards once because they make me so miserable. Maybe JWWM can change that....! Have you ever seen KJ in Loverboy with Patrick Dempsey? I can't quite bring myself to. The story doesn't really appeal although I'd love to see both of them.

Welcome Karin. I feel the same way about the last few episodes. hat is one of the reasons I am writing fan fiction. I want to make myself feel better at the end of the series. We will see what happens. I am sure we will dig out some gold in the last few episodes. But I am glad it will take a while to get there.

I never really watched SMK during its initial run. I was an avid Remington Steele and Hart to Hart fan back then. I stumbled onto the SMK fandom on fanfiction.net and became intrigued. I got a complete set of SMK DVDs and I was hooked and began writing for the SMK fandom. The rest as they say is history.

Thanks for the tag, Learjet! Sorry, still learning my way around all of this. I can't even remember how I found JWWM. It might have been a Google search for something about an episode. I saw it and got curious. I'm on You Tube as a poster (wxclim8 on there) and I'm subscribed to SMK Jennilee, Lovesmk and probably a few others. That's been my only exposure for years. I've seen a couple forums for SMK (long before all of this) but thought the discussion was gone until I found this place and JWWM. I think I'm still a little bit in this happy-drunk state (for a lack of a better description) to have wandered into all of this. So much to read and catch up on, but I'm glad to be here! I first discovered SMK in the 1980s because my mom watched it and she worked in DC. I was in it sometime during season 1. I got my best friend at the time hooked on the show too. Watched it religiously every week! My family couldn't go out for dinner those nights, because I HAD to be home to watch it (no VCR).

I got started on SMK in 1986, when it first aired in Germany. In fact, I celebrated the 30th anniversary last week!
I was 15 at the time and I got started only because my mother had told me that the actor who played Howie in "The Fall Guy" would be in it. I got started with TGTN and found out right then that my mother had mixed the actors up, but no problem with that, I liked the show. After SAAB and ALAGHITM, I seriously started shipping!
My interests in connection with SMK are fanfiction (reading and writing), videos (I would really like to make my own!), connecting pieces of music and songs to SMK... Oh, and I might get started on memes, too. Those I saw here just cracked me up!
Except for one episode (PF), I caught them all on the first airing. During the 90s, I managed to get all the missing 17 eps on tape (Picture quality varied greatly!), and I was as hooked on those as I was on the others! I also got some of those I knew only in German, and it was almost like watching completely new episodes.
When Season 1 came out on DVD in 2010, I was bouncing inside with excitement! Yes, even after all this time, I'm still firmly hooked!
I did quite a few things back in the 80s that I always considered slightly crazy. I got up early on the weekends so I could have the VCR to myself until my parents woke up. I sometimes watched episodes without sound and put in a music tape instead to just enjoy the visuals. I was obsessed to the point that I still remember a lot of small stuff that happened around when an episode first aired.
And I love that I found people here (and on other platforms) who share my obsession even after all those years!

Oh boy ... I used to be a HUGE HUGE fan back when I was a kid, mom and I used to watch it (and knight rider!!!) together, I dont know what made it pop into my head again, but I bought a few eps on google play, and then saw Amazon had it for sale, so I pounced and bought seasons 2 and 3, I hope to get 1 and 4 soon so I will have the complete collection!!!

First exposure to SMK: Episode 1, original air date. Mom picked it out for us I think. So every week Mom, my sister, and I would all sit and watch the show for pretty much the whole run.
And we'd have to keep an eye on Dad, because he kept changing the channel after the show was over, not realizing there was a "tag" scene. "Dad!!! Change it back!" [lol]
Re-exposure... I get back into it every few years or so. First was with the PAX series. Then there was the unofficial DVD version. And finally when they released the official DVDs I bought season 2 (for Burn Out & Ship of Spies). And this year I decided to get the whole series on apple - while reading along with "JWWM" of course.
I'm starting season 2 now.

Discover: I was a stubborn ten-year-old in the summer of 1992 when Family Channel announced they would be showing a series called "Scarecrow & Mrs. King". I thought it would be some kind of old Beverly Hillbillies kind of comedy about an old lady on a farm and thought "Pass." Then they took my favorite show at the time, Father Dowling Mysteries, off and put SMK in its place (7PM Weekdays) and I had no intention of going near the time slot out of "loyalty." Whenever my mom and stepfather turned it on I would leave the room or go outside.
I did happen to come into the living room one evening in time to hear "We want you to shoot Amanda King." I figured that had to be the Mrs. King from the title and I pointed to Lee and said "Is he a bad guy?" Mom said "No, that's Scarecrow! He's the lead!" I thought, "Okay, this series is just nuts if they want their main characters to shoot each other," and left the room again.
I honestly don't remember what happened -- if Family Channel announced they would bring Father Dowling back in fall and I could let down my guard, or if it was simply that Mom was working which made the house feel lonelier and I decided to stay with my stepfather in the living room and watch TV. (I think it was the latter, because I remember having to tell my mom about the ep but I really can't remember for sure). That night they aired the episode Night Crawler. There was a lot I couldn't understand -- the paintbrush (creeped me out), Amanda hallucinating, Lee finding her body and it not being her body (I didn't know about masks!), and the concept of zap gas scared the living daylights out of me. (Too similar to Sleep Paralysis which I'd had since I was little). But I couldn't take my eyes away from the show. It was just too interesting. And when I saw Lee come in and propose to Amanda when they were both held captive, I just knew this show was special and I was hooked. At least, for three weeks, till they changed the time slot to being past my bedtime!
A few months later, we had to switch from satellite to cable, so I didn't get to see SMK anymore. I had the Oz ep which my mom had taped (I loved the Oz books as a kid) and remembered loving it and hoping it would come back on one day. When the DVDs came out I was thrilled, but between other shows I was into and some crazy real life stuff happening, I never made time to binge through the whole series and just watched the odd episode here and there.
Then on January 31 this year, I felt like I was getting a headache, which ticked me off to no end because I'd just gotten over a stress headache a few days ago. I'd been thinking about pulling my SMK DVDs out again since I'd been following Bruce's twitter after seeing him in the Hallmark movies and so I grabbed them and narrowed it down to two episodes I had never seen. One was Odds On A Dead Pigeon, which was good, but felt strange to see Amanda as a villain, even in a dual role. The other was The Eyes Have It and it just had EVERYTHING! Mystery, Suspense, Adventure, Romance, Friendship, H/C -- it was like a dream episode. From then on I've been watching at least one episode (if not more) every evening and I'm more addicted now than I ever was when I was younger. I absolutely love it.
