Iwsod just left a question at JWWM about which is the silliest episode ever and which is the best blooper. For sheer random "why are they even there?" plotlines, I do feel like "Playing for Keeps" is the silliest, even when you've got doppelgangers every other episode because they seem to be trying to play it straight and failing miserably. The rapid rewrite shows but it seems liek the whole crew fell apart on this one. Tracy Austin was the best actor there, which says something. For pure "where were the regular writers" stupidity, I continue to loathe "A Class Act" because everything they showed Amanda doing badly at is stuff we already knew she was good at. No multi-tasking mother, baseball coach (have you seen her hook slide?) and den mother is bad at remembering things or doing anything physical. It burns my butt almost as bad as the office scene in Vigilante Mothers. (That one started my career in fan fiction because I was so ticked. But I digress)
Favourite bloopers up until now was the rearing horse in "Always look a gift horse..." which magically lost and regained its bridle and saddle between the close-up and the long shot and sailing into the sunset on the *East Coast* in "Flight to Freedom" but honestly those have paled to insignificance once I saw Lee being exploded into a polyester suit and right back out of it again on JWWM this week.

"Always Look a Gift Horse..." always got me because of the Texas ranch located in Virginia. What state are we in again, people?

Not the entire episode(s) but the silliest moments ever, for me, are when Francine "hulks out" and morphs into Mancine whenever there's some fighting to do. Thank god they let MS do some of that stuff herself in later seasons! I mean - what were they thinking? That no one would notice Francine's sudden change into a guy in a bad wig who's maybe no taller than her but twice as broad and who couldn't move convincingly in women's clothing? (And also looked slightly bow-legged.) Seriously, didn't they have any stuntwomen available to do that job - for both MS and KJ because her stunt double was hardly any better.
Where did KJ's stunt double from "Charlie's Angels" go? I only saw a few episodes but I didn't notice anything off with fighting Sabrina ... Oh well, I guess "Fall Guy" just lied to us when they were pretending there was a thing like stuntWOMEN ... (Too bad Cyd Child's too tall to double MS - 4 inches taller - but they could have used her for KJ - she's only 1.5 inches taller than her. Uh, Cyd Child's the stuntwoman who doubled Diana Rigg - Emma Peel - in The Avengers, and fabulously so.)

Mancine is hilarious! It is hard to top Playing For Keeps with Polyester Lee. I'm still not through some of the discussions and so I'll have to think on this, but I'm counting on some of you to warn me which one's I shouldn't read at work or while eating/drinking anything.

Yep, I'm going to have to change my habits, because I'll eat lunch at my desk and sometimes hop on to JWWM or Neds while I'm running a data query that is too boring to just sit and wait for. Glad I didn't read the Mancine one at work.

I think for me the silliest episode of the series came in Season 4 with Santa's Got a Brand New Bag. First the ridiculous idea that Lee is pals with a toy inventor like that guy? And that he buys him Christmas presents every year? Why haven't we heard of him? And those awful things they have Amanda say? Ugh! And the crying baby doll scene? Ugh! Amanda is acting as if she's had a lobotomy! There are only three things that are reason for watching this episode: 1. LOVE that that they "Christmas-ify" the theme song! 2. Lee in the rather fetching navy wool coat when he sees TP at his tuba-playing gig - VERY hot - perhaps one of my most favorite Lee screen caps of the series. Lee looks awfully good in blue unless its leather. (where's my fan...) 3. Seeing Lee interact with Amanda's family in the tag....awww....
Other than that, the best highlight involves Francine at the bar. She does good work and she looks good without looking like a streetwalker.

And SGABNB has the added bonus of leading to the next bit of episode re-ordering problems when in the next episode that aired, you can hear Lee introducing himself to Philip when he comes to take Amanda on a proper date.

That's one of the worst bits for me. I love it when Lee and Amanda (start) Christmas-shopping together. Can't imagine anything worse than doing that with my other half, but if it were Lee.... Saved by the Bells is hilarious in places, but I find that rotating bookcase scene really silly. Also Lee talking into the mop. Plus the AmandaBand occupies a prominent place in the episode

How Francine doesn't floor Beaman with a right hook when he comes after her. XD (Because she totally could - she's good enough - and the way he's behaving, no one would blame her.)

The fact that Francine never really does anything to discourage him is probably why there is a staggering amount of fan fiction devoted to getting them together in the future. In actual fact it was probably because in the 80s she would have been the one to lose her job even though he's the one doing the sexual harrassment. There's a lot about the 80s I don't miss. :-)

There's a lot about the 80s I don't miss. :-) Oh, I don't know. It's not just that. For me it's kind of a "Beauty and the Nerd" story - it just fits, imho. I sure prefer Beaman over Jonathan "Wet Blanket" Stone. (Sorry, couldn't resist - that guy just rubs me the wrong way.) I don't remember too much about the 80s, I was still a kid back then, however I think in case of Francine and Beaman we should take into account that a) Francine's basically outranking Beaman b) it's Francine who's friends with the section chief (Billy), not Beaman c) Francine's one of their top agents whereas Beaman - isn't d) as much as Lee "likes" Beaman he's probably just waiting for a word from Francine to go all "protective big brother" and start kicking Beaman's butt. So my guess would be if Francine so much as hinted at wanting Beaman removed from Field Section, Billy would be happy to oblige. And if she whacked Beaman a good one for getting too close, Billy would probably tell him "Well, son, you had that coming." It's SMK after all, not the real 80s. (At least that's what I'd think would be consistent with Billy's personality as shown on the show.) That said - guilty as charged. I'm definitely one of the Francine-and-Beaman-faction - and I have a cunning plan because getting those two together while keeping them both in character is tricky!

Well, Khell, my Immortal Beloved of 22 years is a nerdy computer guy with great hair and the most amazing hazel eyes... so maybe fanfic Beaman just needs a tiny nudge in the right direction without having to change character ;-)
And since I just made Amanda say something unbelievably rude in my last story, I figure "out of character" is just a side of their character they didn't get a chance to expose us to yet. :-)

I DO like what they do to the theme song! Why don't you like it? It is very festive to me and makes me want to sing along. And I hate singing, well, I'm really horrible at it. So any song that makes me want to sing along or get up and move is a good song. La la la la la!

I agree, no one would blame her, but I think she sees Beaman as no threat - sort of like taking candy from a baby - there's no need to punch him, she can handle him in other ways. That or maybe she needs to have a good working relationship with him to get her requests put at the top of his work pile so she puts up with a little harmless annual affection from him?
