Hi Everyone, I've been thinking of season 4 and what's ahead. After about 3 years of walking through season 3, it now makes sense that it's going to be something I need to mentally prepare myself for! As I've said a few times now, I'll walk through Unfinished Business as the first episode of season 4. I actually just finished writing the blog posts for that episode [Huge thank you to Learjet for transcribing and formatting this episode!] Unfinished Business blog posts are all done! And I'm about to start on Stemwinders [Huge thank you to KC for transcribing this!!!! and to Learjet for formatting!!! ] I am needing to get ahead with blog posts before we jump into season 4, so my RL commitments don't get in the way of the walk continuing. I really don't like to pause mid episode.. it breaks up the flow of our conversations and what the episode is all about.. so I'll avoid doing that where I possibly can. But, I think I will take the odd break a little more often between episodes from time to time. I only have so many smk hours in a week - and during that time I can write blog posts, or I can respond to comments.. when I do both - I have much less time to get the blog posts written.. thus I need to get ahead. I really like to participate in discussions and respond to everyone's thoughts - because well.. everyone's contributions rock! The thought of not walking through season 4 never crossed my mind - but I have been considering how to do it, and make it the most enjoyable experience for myself, and for everyone who joins in the walk. Thus, I wanted to hear from you all your ideas. Thinking ahead for how to manage season 4 - I will likely reduce the detail for some episodes where it seems the episode is getting bogged down - but I do like to include all the dialogue everyone has contributed.. it is good to go back to.. so when the eps are a little on the dull side, I'll likely make things a little more short and snappy, but still include the dialogue.. and I'll try and reduce the number of photos included.. Learjet your suggestion to do this was a good one! Thanks for sharing your thoughts openly! I'll just have to use my judgement for what is dull or what is appealing and if anyone wants to cover something more than it was covered in the blog post - you guys are very welcome to do that in the comments. When things feel a little laborious for me as the writer of the blog posts, I'll take a break between episodes and refresh myself before moving on to the next. This will also help me to have more time to converse with commenters. Basically - I'm going to take it an episode at a time, and I have a few strategies ready to go - I will be as prepared as I can be! Lastly, I know I've said this elsewhere (can't remember where)- I admire KJ and her bravery in facing her cancer diagnosis/treatment and continuing to film right through to the end of season 4. It may not have been the ideal ending, but my view is that I'm extremely grateful that we got an ending at all in those circumstances. I'd like to honour her bravery - and also what I view as her selflessness in giving back to the fans of this show. She suffered through the end of season 4 physically, emotionally, spiritually and psychologically.. and I want to honour that. I figure the least I can do is write blog posts and cover the episodes - it's not really asking so much of me is it!! Not in the great scheme of things. I'm gonna walk through season 4 - in honour of KJ's bravery! This is my first post at Ned's and I'm not quite sure how to do this. I want to thank Iwsod, Learjet, KC and all the others who help out with the blog. It is very difficult to stay committed to anything for years and I wonder how your RLs have changed since this all began. That you are able to do a walk through now is much appreciated!! Iwsod, I was glad to read this post (and thread) as it gives me insight into where S4 was headed. I'll be happy to walk with all of you to the end, if that is possible, no matter how much time it takes. S4 is not as light and airy, but there is growth, romance, and honoring KJ. I'm curious to see what will naturally come out in the posts and our conversations in these eps. Mostly, I just wanted to say THANK YOU for your time and insights. The blog has enriched the show for me and I am grateful.

Hi colorful angel,
Just want to say I’ve been enjoying your insights over at JWWM. I don’t have much to say over there, I’m more of a Twitter type slap it down person and everyone at JWWM is so analytical and knowledgeable! And I haven’t been active here at Ned’s for years but I got an email notice of activity in this thread and here you are. I will have to explore here a bit and see if there is other new activity. RL does get in the way! I came late to the SMK party, did not watch it in the original, but have enjoyed watching and following these forum folks over the last 5 or 6 years on an intermittent basis. And I echo your thanks for their time and insights. RuthP221

I think we can talk about season 4 episode order here...
Its taken me four years, but I just finished season 3 of my stories (today, when I should be working n two papers and filling out financial aid forms...) Now I want to dig into season 4 while the juices are flowing.
I know I want to work on the order of things and I have taken note of what everyone has said here. I know that Iwsod will mostly stick to airing order and thats good for me as far as the blog, but I think I want to do something with the last five, I just can't remember what. I think I want the last one to be the one where Lee kisses Amanda at the back door of her house and then follows everyone in for dinner. Any thoughts?
I guess I will have to find some time to binge watch the episodes, just not sure when that will ever happen...

Someone else just introduced me to the idea of putting "One Flew East" in last place and it really does flow beautifully there. All the emotional stuff aside, and the nice clincher of having Scarecrow end with him finally "coming home", it also fits better than having her running around helping him in the field so soon after getting shot. I'm stomping on Cindy's Walk post here a bit, but I have started putting "The Man Who Died Twice" after the Christmas episode because Lee is so excited to start talking weddings and I feel like it's carryover excitement foro having spent a nice Christmas with the family. Any Number Can Play, of course, needs to be moved back before "Santa..." because Lee and Phillip introduce themselves to each other offscreen as if they've never met and then Lee insists to Dotty that she call him Lee, which, of course, she does in "Santa" as well as excitedly saying he's Amanda's boyfriend. My only other thought is where to play "A Matter of Choice" depends on whether you think Francine went off to a HEA with Jonathan or whether she dumped him almost immediately and accepted that date happily in "Kruschev's List". Personally, I really hope she dumped him. :-)

Thanks so much Janeth! I can't remember much after Night Crawler. Its been a long time since I was steeped in SMK, especially season 4.But I remember thinking that a re ordering of season 4 would make it so much nicer. I always felt as though a season 5 would bring Lee into the family, the marriage out of hiding and possibly a little Stetson. And I am thinking that their days in the field should probably dwindle. I just think its what Lee is really longing for and Amanda too. But we shall see.

Ok, So I played around with the order of the whole season, letting Amanda's hair guide me and I came up with an episode order that might be fun and help me to enjoy season 4 more. I am not suggesting that anyone else might like it and I know that Iwsod won't let it shape the walk - which makes perfect sense. I am also not 100% sure if it works yet, but I think I will try to watch season 4 in this order and see if I like it. There are a couple of episodes that I still might flip flop, but this is the basic outline: Unfinished Business, Stemwinders, No Thanks for the Memories, Its in the Water, Night Crawler (don't you just love how quickly Lee proposes), Man who Died Twice ( I think he suggested the Mystery Marriage because he was so confused about how to have what his heart wanted and still reconcile his job and the world he had lived in... I think he is over it for sure by the end of the season! Bring on the public wedding!), Photo Finish, Billy's Lost Weekend, Need to Know (these last two or three may need reordering but they will all stay right here after Man Who Died Twice), Any Number Can Play, Santa, Bad Timing ( Amanda's hair is crazy curly in this one still), Promises to Keep, Rumors of my Death, Do You Take This Spy, Mission of Gold, All that Glitters (I am going to believe that Amanda's huge shoulder pads are to protect her chest as she recovers from that gun shot wound), Kruschev List (in this one I think Lee starts to imagine laying down spy work because he just wants normal with Amanda), Suitable for Framing (in this one he basically tells Amanda - in front of Francine- that he wants out of the business because he wants a shot at a normal life), Matter of Choice (which ends with Lee in the kitchen at Maplewood Ave, right where he belongs), One Flew East ( and I think he will ask the boys and Dotty for permission to marry Amanda, and there will be a beautiful back yard wedding by the end of the summer - perhaps Lee and Amanda can continue to man the Q and do research, and training and consulting. I mean Lee will almost be 40 and we can already tell he isn't bouncing back from fights as easily. Its time to pass the baton to the young er agents and allow all of the wisdom and experience that Lee and Amanda have gained to be resourced for the good of the entire Agency. Plus I think Lee needs to be a dad soon... preferably to a little girl... I mean - can't you just see him beaming at a ballet recital in 10 years?)

I stopped watching sometime in Season 4 when I found JWWM years ago so I will also need to find some time to watch the episodes that I have never seen. I am encouraged by your participation, Morley, so will try as well to catch up using your proposed episode order. Thanks to you and JanetH for a little revival here at Nedlindgers.

I did it. I sped through season 4 in the order I laid out. I think the order worked well, except that I would put Matter of Choice right after Mission of Gold. In Matter of Choice we only see Amanda at home and Lee is almost totally strung out and not sleeping so I think it could be interpreted to be right after Amanda gets home from California and is still recuperating and because no one knows they are married her mother is taking care of her. I bet that would mess with Lee and he would throw himself into work and not go home to his apartment at all because Amanda isn't there and their marriage seems invalid in a way. The best thing that happened to him is that his boxers are in her wash and he hears that he belongs there with her. Perhaps he came over a few nights to give Dotty a break with the care giving...? perhaps he stayed and those are the mornings we find him clean shaven?
Anyway, watching it in this order I did not feel that terrible emptiness that I usually feel when I think about the end of season four. Of course now I want to go read all that great fanfic about back yard weddings and family life...

Yeah you guessed right Morley, I'll stick to airing order more or less.. or my head is gonna explode. There was something about Santa's new bag and the order of Dotty meeting Lee that was really obviously wrong. I was thinking I would swap those eps.. but not sure what they are. oh hang on - I just found it here - thanks Janeth! I might go with Janeth's ideas here for season 4... I'm going to have to come back to all this good stuff as I get deeper into season 4. It's been years since I've seen all these episodes! I think switching any number can play and santa's new bag is a no brainer, and for the rest - I"ll stick with airing order and we can all discuss as we go along together. I hope that's okay.. Oh and if I say: hey guys what did I decide to do for season 4 episode order can you ummm reminder me?! rofl! It's quite possible I will need a reminder haaaaaaa...

Oh Yeah! Iwsod! Its okay. I felt so our of it a few weeks ago when I re submerged. It was kind of fun, like rediscovering all over again. I also noticed that thoughts that I had were thoughts that I had had all those years ago and that was fun to discover too. I have an idea for how I want the season four story to unfold... but this is the fun. Who cares? Someone posted an interesting order for season three recently... where did I see that? Was it on JWWM? Perhaps, when I am all done with this round of stories (um... in 2030?) I will check that order out.
I just finished my final paper for my most recent class and have about three weeks before I hit the books again. Time to get some SMK writing in. Going to try to visit Unfinished Business tonight... although I am pretty tired from all the school work of the past 2.5 months. Iwsod, how did you do Grad school and SMK at the same time?

This is sooooo exciting! My first post at Nedlinger's! Woohoo!
As I've mentioned over at JWWM, my son and I have gone through the series together. Thankfully before we hit season 4, I found this thread with Morley's revised order. I mostly stuck to airing order except for the obvious shifts (UB before Stem; Any Number before Santa). I'm not in the camp of moving The Man Who Died Twice...not yet, at least. I also felt strongly that Bad Timing needed to stay the last one before marriage, as they refer to only having one more week, and the last music is the wedding march, though I know Morley had moved it because of Amanda's hair.
My favorite part of Morley's thoughts are for the episodes past Mission of Gold. Her analyzation behind each of those episodes flows beautifully. I didn't even hate All That Glitters as much in her order! We've got the last three left to watch, ending with One Flew East, and I am really looking forward to seeing that closed door of the back porch as the last scene of the series.
So just for clarity, here's the order I have watched Season 4 this watch through (again, with the last three left to watch still): 1. Unfinished Business 2./3. Stemwinder 1 & 2 4. No Thanks for the Memories 5. It's In the Water 6. Nightcrawler 7. Billy's Lost Weekend 8. Photo Finish 9. The Man Who Died Twice 10. Need to Know 11. Any Number Can Play 12. Santa's Got a Brand New Bag 13. Promises to Keep
You guys are awesome! - Amandarambler 14. Rumors of My Death 15. Bad Timing 16. Do You Take This Spy 17. Mission of Gold 18. Matter of Choice 19. All That Glitters 20. Khruschev List 21. Suitable for Framing 22. One Flew East

Whoops, not sure how my closing got mixed in the episode order. Maybe that's about the same explanation of how the random wonkyness of Season 4 order happened aired back in the 80s...🤣🤣🤣 - Amandarambler

Hey everyone! My son and I finished the series tonight. I actually changed the order for the last three than what I wrote yesterday to instead follow the order of - Suitable for Framing - then Kruschev List, and ended with - One Flew East (which was a delightful way to end). I did that because I remembered Lee talking about not having had an uninterrupted weekend together since they got married on Suitable for Framing, which to me would've seemed odd coming after Kruschev - the beginning of which seems they likely had been together over a weekend. Anyway, changing up those post-Mission of Gold episodes and ending with One Flew East helped the series end on a "less empty note", as Morley referenced, and ended with their family all together inside. It was nice to have Dotty and the boys in the "finale", if you will, that way also. Just some thoughts!

Amandarambler - I like what you said about having Dotty and the boys in the finale. I also like the idea of Lee walking through the door of Amanda's house to join his new family. When he married Amanda, he got the family he always needed. It would be nice to have the series end with him embracing her family - a huge contrast from the first episode when he shared that he loved being a loner. What a beautiful story arc. And, for Amanda, she now has a career, a man who adores her and loves her family. The whole series is such a lovely tale of two lonely, lost people who found each other, formed an amazing friendship, and fell in love. (*sigh* such happy thoughts...)
