Here is a place to discuss fan fiction. We could create a list of favorites. Perhaps we could group them according to canon/ non canon stories. One shots, deleted scenes, AU, between episode, or group them by episode?
We could discuss plots?
Leave your thoughts and we shall see what becomes of it...
Great idea for a topic. And you're right, Morley, we could even create a lot of sub-threads. I'm also thinking a thread for brainstorming topic ideas might be good. I've got a Dotty fic I've been mulling over for a while, but haven't had time to sit down and create a draft. Maybe after the thesis defense is done.
I am clagjanet in the Walk and in my fanfic and I am always happy to chat about fanfic! Count me in for discussions! We could maybe have episode threads so that when people find s afic they like that delas with an episode, they could post there?
(RuthP221 waving) I'm here and eager to follow the discussion, as some of you know I'm more of a consumer than a contributor but I certainly enjoy taking in all the SMK wisdom and insights and writing creativity, as RL allows.

This is strent23 (Samella). Count me in. Sounds like a wonderful idea. Was trying to edit and post my picture to the left. Sorry everyone for the elien looking baby to the left. My tech skills are minimal. And time too precious to try to figure it out .
I like ones that build on canon. There was one tha I read years ago about Lee and Amanda's daughter who had a similar experience as in The First Time. Lee and Amanda are semi retired, sort of in a advisory role, Jamie and Philip are involved in the Agency life as well.I thought that the story would have made for an interesting reboot of the show for today's audiences. I think reading fanfics like that helped me think a bit more about what was going on in the show and the characters beyond what we saw on the screen.
I am getting ready to start working on season 4 and I think I am excited about it because I can fill in all of those awful gaps and flesh out the story a bit more. At the same time, I think I am going to have to be adding so much more to the stories that I write, especially for Amanda. Usually Iw ork with what is in the episodes and watch their faces and responses to one another. I think about how the actors must have created backstory for their characters and I try to discover that. Actors build a rather elaborate and layered backstory for their characters even if the script never scratches the surface. It how they choose how to have all of those small mannerisms and facial expressions etc when they aren't delivering lines. That was what I was trying to uncover as I wrote. Season 4 will be a challenge with Amanda. I may be creating story instead of uncovering it. I wish I could write dialogue because I would love to turn Scotch Thoughts and Window Reflections into Clear Thoughts and Couch Talks for season 4. But I don't think I could pull of compelling dialogue and I don't want to have it only be wooden he said, she said, gibber jabber.
Any way. I offer these musings as a way to kick off some conversation here.
I am interested to hear what you all think, and what your favorite stories are. When I am done with the final papers I have to write this week and dig my house out from t he chaos that ensues when Mom is burried in the books, perhaps I will add some links to stories that I write.
And if anyone is into Anne of Green Gables there are some excellent one on Fanfic.net for that book too!
Off the top of my head, I like stories that are a bit like episodes and am not too concerned usually with where they are placed in canon, although a heaping dose of romance never hurts. For instance, I adore "Field Trials" by NancyY, which is about Amanda trying to finish off her training, and of course, it all goes wrong. It ticks all the boxes for me with Capable Amanda, Loving Lee, adventure, humour and wonderfully written.
My own body of work is a little all over the place with the only constants being a healthy does of humour and their friendship above all. I have written AUs, fantasy, long ones, short ones... I never know what's going to come out next. But I adore writing dialogue for Dotty! I understand her. It worries me sometimes, but I do.
Not that I read a lot of fan fiction but some very memorable stories to me are RedGold's stories relating to Salzburg, I think titled "Locked," "Linked," "Bridged." Full of angst and pathos, really inside Lee's head and just endearing to me, as I recall. Must go look them up and read again. Always enjoy Morley and JanetH's works.
