I am a beginner fic writer and so far I can only manage short stories. I have only written two so far, but I have a third in the works... maybe I can finish that over Christmas break too....
The first one I wrote was printed in the SMK Fanzine for the Reunion:
www.fanfiction.net/s/9765734/1/Overdrive
And the second one I wrote is a backstory for a comment Dotty made in Playing Possum and takes place in Amanda's childhood. (The one I am currently working on is also a childhood one):
www.fanfiction.net/s/8581863/1/The-Ransom-of-Lois-Ann
Many of you have probably already seen these links before but I thought I would post them here anyway for the few that haven't. Sorry... no romance in these... that is definitely NOT my thing. Therefore, the childhood ones are ideal for me! But I tried to stay true to the characters to the best of my abilities.
And I must agree... Ardeliah's SMK fics are awesome!

When SMK ended I thought that was pretty much it. When it started, VCRs were still a fairly new technology and I didn't think to record anything. As time progressed there were a few instances of the reruns for the series, but again those ended. So, here we are many years later and I discover Amazon Prime and then discover that the whole series is on DVD. Still can't get enough and discovered the JWWM blog along with a few other sites. I was familiar with some fan fiction because of my being a big Buffy The Vampire Slayer fan, but I wasn't too thrilled all the time at what I read. But these last few months I have been playing catch up and have been fascinated with the variety of stories and ideas, some not so good, but some quite awesome indeed. At this point I have been pacing myself because I can get so wrapped up in it that I will forget to do anything else. Some of the stories have been very moving and some are a bit out there. I do like the ones that keep close to the personalities of the characters. I tend to like the ones where the relationship has not yet started, but is very close and the ones that show the beginnings of the relationship. We don't get to see a lot of them as being married on the show and definitely don't see what it was like if and when the secret is revealed to everyone so sometimes things seem to stretch a bit. But I like to read so I'll keep enjoying them because I get to spend more time with one of my favorite shows.

Thanks for the endorsement, debilyn! The first ones are kind of short and pithy, but there will be more material to play with as the season goes on...

Thanks for the endorsement, debilyn! The first ones are kind of short and pithy, but there will be more material to play with as the season goes on... Hi Morley and everyone.. I have been holding off getting into fan fic till I've finished blogging but heck. I can't resist following my friend Morley's stories as she publishes them for 'the first time' (pun intended ) ! They were wonderful Morley! I especially enjoyed the parallel between Lee's thoughts and Amanda's thoughts - they both thought about 'the drop' being straight forward but turning out to be anything but! Lee's drop - was to pick up the package. Amanda's drop was to take Dean to the train station.. It's almost like you've conveyed they are mentally connected already - and they have no idea but we do!! and we get to enjoy what Lee and Amanda are yet to discover! I loved the reference to Honeycutt typewriters and her future plans too. Fantastic Morley! Looking forward to seeing what they both think after Amanda turns down Lee's drinks invite at the end of TGTN! [I'll add links to your stories on JWWM - but aim to keep any discussion here.. maybe you should create your own thread here for your stories Morley - so they are all together? In a year's time it could be handy to have them all in one thread of their own? Just a thought.. bye for now! ]

Thanks, Iwsod, for your comments. I am looking forward to hearing what people think as they read them. I had tons of fun writing them and working out ideas with my Beta extraordinaire. Like Lovesmk said about her videos, having people like them will be the icing on the cake.
I will start a separate thread here at Ned's in hope that people do want to comment on them.

Awhile back, I started a small forum on fanfiction.net to suggest story ideas for SMK fics. If anyone wants to take up some of the challenges there, feel free. Recently, someone else made some special requests. I might take a stab at one of them later, but right now, I've got some other projects that I'm in the middle of. If you'd like to see the requests and other story ideas, you can find them at www.fanfiction.net/forum/Scarecrow-and-Mrs-King-Story-Challenges/131277/

Oooh, cool! *goes to take a look* Heh, funny, that project I did for NaNo last year (read: still working on and will be working on for quite a while) could actually fall in the "Future of the characters" category ... It's set not too long after the end of the show (same year, actually) so it's more like "immediate future" than "far future". Let's see if I ever manage to finish it. Looking good, though, since it's a Francine-story (of course) and that lady's very, VERY good at keeping me writing. (And funnier still, I've also always thought Jamie might end up a professional photographer/photojournalist, maybe with a big agency like Magnum, one day. Remember him in Munich, snapping all those pics of the Glockenspiel? )

I could see Jamie as being a photographer, too, or maybe in a career that focused on the sciences or mechanics. I've kind of thought that Philip might actually join the Agency someday. In some ways, he kind of reminds me of a younger version of Lee -- athletic, brash, more action-oriented than his brother.
You know, I've noticed that whenever people write fanfic with Lee and Amanda having a child, it's usually a girl. I'm not sure if it's because Amanda already has two boys, but it just struck me as interesting. Someone else I was talking to said that she could see Lee as being an extremely overprotective father if he had a kid, especially if it was a daughter.

Interesting, Jestress. I'll have to check out those challenges. I enjoy doing them from time to time. I find they help me focus a little better. Right now, gotta finish some reading homework from class first.

Here's another one that I really like - it speaks to me on multiple levels. It's another one set after Nightcrawler, addressing the fact that although Amanda is a strong woman, she was tortured and it wouldn't have been all rainbows and happiness the next day a la the tag (though I think we're supposed to assume some amount of time passing...). Aaaaaanyway - one of the things that I love about this fanfic is the use of animal therapy. (Sweet Colin.) I do volunteer work in animal therapy (we take small animals into hospitals, elder care facilities, psych units, rehab facilities, etc) and I've seen the joy it brings and the spark in the eyes of someone looking lost... Into the Light by Bird Charmer. No--the healing wouldn't have been complete immediately, but there needed to be a starting point...
