Hi Everyone.. following on here from a little discussion that's started over on JWWM.. ( HERE's a link to the comments- post 5 of Wizard) Jestress maybe you'd like to copy your comment about codenames over to there? Jestress gave us a run down of who has codenames and who doesn't. and yes.. Amanda doesn't! On JWWM I wrote in response to Jestress: "I remember there was discussion on yuku about Amanda's code name before I headed off into the www on my own and got obsessed with my own blog Someone (sorry can't remember who) had liked my idea of Amanda being Lee's 'North Star' so had given her the codename of the name of the north star - which I don't know or remember lol.. I was thrilled they enjoyed my 'north star' comment - but for me, I prefer Amanda have a code name that does not relate to Lee in anyway!!! She's earned her place at the agency.. it's not just about what she means to Lee." Anyone got any ideas for a codename for Amanda? What other codenames have we heard so far? I always thought Humbug was an interesting one.. suited the crotchety old guy but did he get the codename when he was younger? lol.. and if that's the case.. did he become his codename? whahahahaa.. does that Mean Lee will grow old and become a brainless scarecrow?! lol! byeee for now!

What I said earlier was:
I’ve been thinking about the question of Dorothy’s name/codename. Like some of the others, I’ve wondered whether Dorothy was her real name as well, but the show never actually said. Then, it struck me that I can’t think of any female agents in the show who have had codenames separate from their real names. It always seems to be the men who have both their codenames and real names mentioned:
Lee = Scarecrow Paul = Wizard Billy = Lancer (mentioned in the first season) David Benson = Nightlight (The Mole) Ronnie (David’s partner) = Go The older man in The Mole (Lee said his real name. I think it was it Walter, but I’m not sure now) = Humbug
Yet, Francine, the most prominent full-time field agent besides Lee, doesn’t have a codename that anyone mentions. Billy sometimes calls Lee “Scarecrow,” but he never calls Francine anything but Francine. Dorothy is similar, that’s all anyone ever calls her.
I can't think of any other codenames they've mentioned offhand, but if anyone else can, let us know!

LOL on the Francine/Lion resemblance, iwsod!
And sorry I haven't been very vocal here of late. School ended yesterday so I have been preoccupied.
As for codenames I remember:
Agent Rudolph in the "Long Christmas Eve" had the codename Janis.
And Harry Thornton was codenamed Kolinsky in the Dancing Weasel.
And I think the agent in Utopia Now was codenamed Leprechaun.

I think I read a fanfic once where someone suggested that Francine might be the Wicked Witch of the West. Come to think of it, I also read one where they suggested that Amanda be codenamed Glinda. That might be a good name for her, although I'm not sure if she's really part of the Oz network.

I have a feeling Francine would actually like the Wicked Witch codename. However - was she ever part of the Oz network? I once read a short fanfic where she used to have a codename - Gem - but dropped it after Jonathan disappeared ... It's really odd none of the women in the show have codenames. On the other hand, maybe you only get one when you're in the field a lot and Francine seems to be working mostly in the office. On the other hand, Billy seems to have a codename: Lancer. But that might be a "remnant" from when he was still more active in the field ...

Thanks swissmiss, Jestress and Knell! It gave me a giggle Hey everyone, I've been wondering about Lee's codename.. especially since we are now walking through Wizard on JWWM. What I'm wondering is.. we know Amanda asks Lee how he got the codename scarecrow in Magic Bus - but when does Amanda first hear or learn of Lee's code name? Seems to me that in The First Time, Amanda never hears it - Billy calls Lee scarecrow in the tag - but by then Amanda has left the room? Amanda never goes into IFF or sees Billy or Francine with Lee in There Goes the Neighbourhood, or The ACM Kid? I think?? [oh and btw I'm going by my episode order which is: TFT, neighbourhood, acm kid and then Magic bus.. So does Amanda learn of Lee's codename I Magic Bus?? and we just don't see it?? Anyone able to shed some light on this? It's very rare that Amanda refers to Lee's codename.. to her, right from the start she is Lee - not scarecrow Unless she is teasing him or something! thoughts? Yeah.. Francine nor Amanda would have Wizard of Oz Code names.. but it was fun to ponder! Codename Janis? good one swissmiss!! It's funny.. I feel like we don't hear many codenames.. but we hear lots of agent names.. Maybe codenames are the equivalent of achieving double O status.. licence to kill ?? The operation codenames may even be more prevalent.. Operation Thunderhead anyone?!

Re Wizard of Oz Code names. Paul Barns gave his team their Oz code names. Francine was not part of the Oz network.
I am not sure where I got the impression that Francine's code name was Princess and she did not like it.
Another Amanda code name from fanfic: Blue Wire

Maybe agents just don't get codenames until they really need them because they're out in the field a lot or connected to a special group or network that requires it, like the Oz network. If Francine spends most of her time as Billy's assistant, she might not have needed one so far. Amanda might also not get one for similar reasons. All the same, I like the idea of them having codenames of their own. Since Billy is "Lancer", maybe Francine could have one related to the Middle Ages or chivalry too, like Milady. Amanda is Scarecrow's partner and one-half of the Q-Bureau, so she could have a name related to that. Ones that I was considering were: Queen -- Both because it starts with 'Q' and because it can be a joke on 'King'. The association with the rock band is unfortunate, but there may be a variation on the name that would get around that. Guess -- Because Billy said that the 'Q' stands for 'Question Mark' and because Lee says that Amanda uses her intuition and guesses at answers. There actually used to be a woman in my home town who had this as her real first name. However, this could also lead to bad comedy routines: "Who is Scarecrow's partner?" "Guess!" Although, I admit that I still like the idea of Amanda as Glinda. I haven't really gotten into the Oz books yet, but I was reading about Glinda on the internet, and someone pointed out that Glinda is arguably the responsible adult figure in the Oz books and also the chronicler of Oz. It sounds like Amanda's kind of role.

If Lee's Scarecrow and we want to go along with the Oz-theme for Amanda's codename, too, I guess Ozma would also be a good option. I haven't read the books, only the info on Wikipedia but from what I gather from there, Scarecrow was made king of the Emerald City in the first book when the wizard and Dorothy left Oz. Later, Ozma as the legitimate sucessor to the throne took over from Scarecrow and as far as I know kept him as advisor.
Other than that I can see everyone calling Francine "Princess" - except for her father maybe - come to a very sudden and nasty end ... XD (Funny side-note: That monster fanfic I've been working on since September actually also includes Francine finally getting a codename. I guess ...)

Oh, Iwsod, that comparison cracked me up. It is so perfect even down to the red bow. It makes me think someone planned it! Maybe the costuming department watched the Oz movie and got idea, maybe that is why Amanda wears pink so much, to look like Glinda. Maybe I am really reaching ;D

Now, Morley, you know we don't "reach" around the SMK-verse. We simply think logically - just like Amanda.
