I don't know whether this is the best place to put this or not, but I just had to share with you something funny I thought of earlier. I've been playing a series of Nancy Drew computer games (They're by Her Interactive. Check out the mini games on their website. They're fun.), and at the end of each game, they give you a list of "awards" you've earned based on the things that you did while solving the mystery as Nancy Drew, like participating in the mini games, solving puzzles in record time, uncovering little sideplots in the storyline that weren't necessary to solve the mystery, choosing the right thing to say to a certain character, etc. For instance, there's a Magellan Award "For going everywhere and seeing everything", a Pinkerton Award "For going after suspects and questioning them relentlessly", and Trivia Tamer "Answering the trivia question correctly". Those are pretty typical. The funnier ones are for things like making someone a sandwich so that they will do something for you (Gourmet Chef Award), playing around with a ventriloquist dummy (Dummy Dearest Award) and spending too much time talking to a parrot (Parrotus Botherus). With that in mind, I started thinking up what awards I would nominate SMK characters for at the end of each of their cases. Like this: Episode: First TimeAwardsMost Original Halloween CostumeAmanda For coming as a Housewife to the Halloween party. “This IS my costume”Lee For showing up at the Halloween party dressed as a spy in a tuxedo. (Did he tell everyone his costume was James Bond? Just wondering. Actually, I wonder why he didn’t wear the pirate outfit instead.) Costume KingLee For dressing as a waiter, a pirate, AND a spy in a tuxedo, all within a 24-hour period. Junior SpyPhilip For opening the “Christmas” present, shaking the music box, and reading the note inside, and afterward, rewrapping it well enough that Dotty had no idea that he’d done it. Gift GiverDean For bringing Amanda new bookends. “One of these things is not like the others”The man in the red hat For choosing an easily-identifiable accessory (in theory). Loose LipsFrancine For obvious reasons. (Actually Lee really gave her this award. ) Benedict ArnoldMrs. Welch For obvious reasons.

Actually, it occurred to me that I could also assign people patches, since Amanda's family is into scouting. Like this:
Episode: First Time
Patches
Cooking Patch
Amanda For recognizing the source of the recipes/codenames
Dotty For diligently watching/recording every show Mrs. Welch did and writing down all the recipes.
Francine For effort
Broadcasting Patch
Amanda For her field trips to the tv studio and Mrs. Welch’s house
Story-Telling Patch
Amanda For telling Dotty that she was at her club to “save the clams.”
Good Deed Patch
Amanda For helping a stranger in need.
Dotty For mailing Amanda’s package for her, even though it was no picnic.
Knot Recognition Patch
Amanda For proving that she can spot the Killick Hitch, even if she can’t untie it.
Aviation Patch
Amanda For learning how helicopters are flown (more or less).

And I came up with some more. This is the kind of thing that happens when Jestress is supposed to be proofreading one of her stories and her mind wanders. Someone probably needs to slap her hand and tell her to get back to work. Episode: There Goes the Neighborhood AwardsType CastingBilly For ordering, er, suggesting that Amanda would be perfect for playing the part of a suburban housewife. On-the-Job TrainingLee For explaining that lying and sneaking are essential skills when working for the government and that senior agents have first choice in the sleeping arrangements. Amanda For offering Lee tips in suburban survival. Generous DonorDotty For giving her stuffed buffalo head to a good cause. Fashion FranknessDotty For finally telling Amanda what she really thinks of that green blouse. Warren Davenport at Honeycutt Typewriter For telling Amanda how delicious she looks in blue. (I just added this one because I forgot earlier. lol!) Home DecoratorAmanda For making sure that her temporary kitchen has matching curtains and rug and that the bullet hole in the couch cushion doesn’t show. Lee For finding the perfect spot for that stuffed buffalo head. Cat BurglarLee and Amanda For being stealthy enough when searching the Bodine house that they remain undetected by the neighbors even as Lee battles with the bad guys on the lawn. Weapon ImprovisationLee For showing off his swordsmanship with lawn flamingos. Amanda For demonstrating that hair spray is an effective alternative to mace. Super SellerAmanda For making “Golden Circle Girl” in record time (sort of).

It *is* pretty hysterical, right? And note that the bird takes off in the opposite direction to its buddies... can you say discombobulated (or muuummmmmyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!!!) I have to say that I love the penguin one most, though. I was having a really cr*ppy day yesterday and I just couldn't help giggling seeing that penguin do the face-plant into the ice each time... I guess it's a good thing that I'm so easily amused. (Problems? What problems? There's an animated penguin gif --> all is right with the world. )

KC, I had the same response to that gif. It was a tough day and for a moment there all the tightness in my stomach disappeared. Thanks

lol! The slap kind of helped. I did get more editing done. But, first, I had to show some people the penguins. And, I have made a few notes for more awards because everyone deserves recognition. (ex. "Hey! It's you!" -- I can think of a couple of people that could apply to. )

Claw Machine EscapeeLester the Duck Because that’s what he looks like to me. ROFL, Jestress!! I wonder how many times Glaser and his pal had to try the machine before they got two Lester's?!?! Love the whale tail slap, KC!!! Hysterical! If they're anything like me, they probably spent at least $2-5 dollars in quarters. Those machines are harder than they look, and you often have to take an animal that you don't want in order to clear the way for the one you do. That's why I ended up with that Frankenstein doll when I was trying to get a cute witch for one of my little cousins several years ago. Actually, Frankie isn't really all that bad. I've still got him, and he comes out on Halloween. Wonder what Glaser and his friend did with their extra stuffed animals? Children's ward? (Shudder.)

More awards! (Feel free to deliver another slap, if you think it's necessary. I'm still not done with the proofreading. Bad Jestress! ) Magic BusAwardsWell-PreparedThe Survivors For making sure they have everything necessary to survive Doomsday, including stewed tomatoes and portable toilets. Educational ValueWhoever made the movie that explains how the Vigilant works Because a lot of the educational films I saw in elementary school sounded just like that. Pep Club MemberCongress Freemont For making sure that the Vigilant had a mascot (a surprisingly useful one, too). Relationship ExpertDotty For outlining the reasons why Dean is an excellent catch and why men with long eyelashes are tempting. Ms. InnocentAmanda For explaining to her mother that she was going on a perfectly innocent retreat to an undisclosed location with people she doesn’t know. Spy MasterBilly For monitoring the elevator from his office. Dreadful DufferAmanda For comically poor golf skills. Carpool QueenAmanda For her mad driving skills in the Vigilant and for actually driving into NYC for Macy’s parade (really, I’m not sure which is more impressive). Business as UsualBilly For reminding Lee that he still has to go to Arizona. Understatement of the YearAmanda For “Okay.” Lee For “Not bad.” And I'll throw in some patches for good measure:Gardening PatchAmanda For watering the flowers and checking for “aphids.” Fitness PatchLee and Amanda For doing well on the Survivors’ run.
