Hi all! this idea came to me as I was reading a ship of spies post.. and I commented that Myles' line to Amanda (about Lee) stating: “Wow, you’ve got a real Mr Warmth there Amanda. Just make sure he doesn’t get overheated!!” could be a great line to include in an 'SMK Guide to Dating' blog post - heck.. I think we can turn this one into a series me being busy and all.. you might wonder how I could do this.. well.. I am deluded.. it's true.. and.. I figure if I don't have to come up with all the ideas myself - maybe this could be a quick little post I can throw out for a giggle and a reminder of previous dating -centric moments. What do you think? Sooo what I'm looking for here is.. : Content from SMK that is advice about dating/RelationshipsThink of anything? Post a brief description of the moment here (and what ep is it) - and I'll put it in a JWWM post - with your name on it
I may just post random smk advice.. rather than do it in order of occurrence as that seems like work ha! Byyeeeeeee

I think I listed some relationship advice in the Character Awards I was doing. Come to think of it, I never finished the fourth season for the awards. Sooner or later, the debate about what we call a date will probably come up again. Lee: This isn't a date. Amanda: I know this isn't a date. Well, of course, this isn’t a date. I was just wondering what I’m going to tell my mother when I get back to the house a half an hour after I left for a party, that’s all. -- Dead Ringer

Relationship Advice I noted in the Character Awards (maybe it'll spark something): First Season: Magic Bus Dotty For outlining the reasons why Dean is an excellent catch and why men with long eyelashes are tempting. The ACM Kid Dotty (level 2, because I’ve already given her this award) For explaining that people can have passion in their arches. Always Look a Gift Horse in the Mouth Amanda For suggesting sexy nightgowns. Princess Penny For urging Amanda to get involved with Lee. (Because dangerous can be fun. ) Service Above and Beyond Billy For getting Lee to think of Amanda as exotic and mysterious. Lee For his sound words of advice on the nature of playboys and their lines and for having had a better line himself in high school. Also for explaining how depressing it is not to have a date on Friday night. Amanda (level 2) For recognizing jealousy when she sees it. Lost and Found Amanda (level 3) For explaining to Lee how to know when it’s over. Dotty (level 3) For recommending that Amanda tell Dean exactly how she feels. (Evidently, she eventually did.) The Artful Dodger Amanda (level 4) For giving Alan points for calling and for bringing flowers, which made up for him being late and for explaining “friendship” to Lee and Francine. Alan For realizing that there’s another man in Amanda’s life. Lee (level 4) For explaining to Amanda how to tell when she’s being picked up and the signs for knowing that a guy is a creep. Filming Raul Dotty (level 4) For pointing out that burning passions and midnight assignations don’t work. Lee (level 5) For figuring out that Amanda isn’t the type for clandestine love affairs. Amanda (level 5) For pointing out that sometimes it isn’t obvious who is the type for what.

My thoughts on the dreadful Artless Dodger Don't accept jewellery from a man too early in the relationship, esp not a "friendship" aka concubine ring. It's a bad sign. Don't trust him!! And a man bringing a flashy bunch of flowers is not always a good thing. He might be overcompensating.

Whoo jestress and whoooo learjet! this thread feels like Christmas! Thanks guys they are wonderful! Thanks! I'll be sure to credit you for identifying them! Byeeeeelol! I have a habit of recycling parts of old projects for new ones, but the character awards are useful reminders of some basic stuff that happened in the episodes. Some of those points could be elaborated on, like what Lee said about how Amanda should have realized that there was something suspicious about Alan in The Artful Dodger (the way they met was pretty contrived, he didn't give her any contact information but insisted on contacting her, etc.). I'm sure there are more things I missed, so by all means, keep the ideas coming. When I read over the awards for the second time yesterday, I found a few more things that I didn't list under relationships but that would also apply: 1. I did a number of awards about gift giving. learjet had a good point that I missed before about being careful of strange men bearing jewelry. Bookends are also not the most romantic present. Buying women dresses that remind you of other women is also not a good idea. There's probably more good present/bad present things we can do with that. 2. I also gave Lee some "Perfect Gentleman" awards for some of the chivalrous stuff he did: I Am Not Now, Nor Have I Ever Been . . . a Spy Bringing Amanda milk and cookies and letting her take a nap in his room. (Although Amanda also got an "Always a Lady" award for refusing to enter Lee’s bedroom until he leaves it. Weekend Always a Lady Amanda (level 2) For refusing to share a bed with Lee Perfect Gentleman Lee (level 2) For letting Amanda have the bed (even though the senior agent is supposed to get it, if I remember right ). Sour Grapes Perfect Gentleman Lee (level 4) For always remembering to open Amanda’s door for her while, at the same time, constantly forgetting his keys. Ship of Spies and Fast Food for Thought Perfect Gentleman Lee For making sure that Amanda had her own room. Fast Food for Thought Security Measures Lee For offering to walk Amanda to her room because “you can’t be too careful.” 3. Some other tidbits I missed before: Waiting for Godorsky Relationship Expert Dotty (level 5) For her opinions about the princess’s husband and for warning her daughter about shady men with titles. Charity Begins at Home Relationship Expert Dotty (level 6) For her views on the romantic lives of older men. Vigilante Mothers Relationship Expert Dotty (level 8) For trying to match Amanda up with Lee (who she knows as Mr. Sampson) and for listing among Lee’s qualities that he has a strong profile and good posture, which Amanda agrees is very important.

Wait, did anyone mention Amanda's line in JE Ghost, "Lee, we are talking about love. When you are talking about love you have to be patient." ?
