I've been wondering off and on... Kate Jackson and Bruce Boxleitner did such an absolutely fantastic job in the roles and with keeping storylines true to character/keeping viewers wanting more (with exceptions such as A Class Act, but that mess is on the writer, IMHO ), does anyone know who--if anyone--else tested out for the parts? I could not imagine SMK with anyone else in the roles (I guess that's true in most cases after a show has aired, but especially in this case)... but I can't help be curious--might it've not made it past S1 if not for the KJ/BB magic (would the viewers still have tuned in)? Most of the writing was fantastic (gaping plot holes excluded--that's part of the charm--LOL!) and there wouldn't have been a show without the writers, but the character chemistry and immersion/understanding of those two was phenomenal. They gave us a gem of a journey... how different would it have been with others in the roles? (And for any of the other characters? Dotty? Billy? Francine?) Just curious... don't flame me for idly wondering. I don't think anyone could've done the job any better.

It's never occurred me that anyone else could have done the job, for better or worse to me KJ and BB ARE Amanda and Lee. I can't even think of anyone in present day who could match their chemistry either. Hmmm definitely given me something to ponder.....

I am sorry I can't remember where..[and sadly must resist the temptation to hunt for it!] but I did read somewhere that smk was always a project packaged as a Kate Jackson project.. the question was more of who would she be teamed up with.. I vaguely remember reading of a few other actors she auditioned with.. but now I can't remember who! Only that BB was unexpectedly good - and the moment he auditioned with Kate everyone knew it was 'Mmmmmmagic!'

This article mentions the Lee role: www.maestravida.com/weinwalk/gossip.html as follows: "BRUCE BOXLEITNER: His days of stalking the jungle as Frank Buck are over, but Bruce is back, minus his moustache and plus a lovely partner, Kate Jackson, in the new series Scarecrow and Mrs. King. The producers sought Bruce from the start, and he was intruigued by the script and the idea of working with Kate, whom he didn't know before ("actually we'd met but she didn't remember," he laughs) yet clicked with instantly. Though he'd been offered a role on The Yellow Rose, the contemporary western milieu of which he liked, Bruce had a good feeling about Scarecrow and Kate ("she's a good lady") and his secret agent character, Lee Stetson. "He's kind of adventurous, I'm an armchair adventurer so it's exciting to step into that warld. I'm attracted to characters who live on the edge, people who live dingerously," says Bruce. A reader of Ian Fleming and Robert Ludlum novels who pictures Lee as "a would-be James Bond -- he never quite gets it." Lee is always getting in trouble for bending the rules: "That's why I like him -- he's a bit of a rebel." Bruce also likes playing the hero. "I enjoyed every bit of Bring 'Em Back Alive, I have no regrets about it. That's the way it goes -- I chalk it up to another of life's experiences," he reflects, though he's glad to share the spotlight and pressures with someone else this time out. He likewise finds romantic scenes fun. "Most fo the time I feel pretty at ease doing them. I flirt around a lot anyway," he laughs, but says filming them is more technical than romantic. "You can't get too close or you'll throw a shadow on her face." Hope this helps. IMHO I can't imagine annnnnnyone else as Lee.

Good find Jule!!! I can't imagine anyone else as Lee either.. because well Lee is a real person right?? Right? ??!!!!! I don't know how much of ' the producers sought Bruce from the start' is a bit of hyperbole - it would be interesting to find any other articles to see what they are saying.. as I think it was a case of once he'd done the Audition they wanted him from then on.. I think I read about it in a KJ article.. maybe the fabulous Kate Jackson fan site has an article on it.. I might try and look later today.. but don't wait on me.. I might not get to look for it! I thought 'He's kind of adventurous' was a bit of an understatement! 'A would-be James Bond - he never quite gets it' - okay everyone.. what do you suppose he means by that?? It's not like James Bond follows he rules either.. 'I flirt around a lot anyway' - ohhhh cheeky BB!!

Pssst, Jenbo. I have his number...send me a PM and I'll share it with you. Ok, I really don't have his number, just want you to come down into the rabbit hole with the rest of us! Urgh - it feels like it's been a month since I've been able to get over to Ned's! I've had too much company and birthday parties to deal with....
Hmmm, I don't watch a ton of tv nowadays, so I'm drawing a blank on this one too. I like Bones and the couple of Castle episodes I've seen, but their chemistry isn't nearly the same level as BB/KJ's. I'm still stuck on P&P...I had no idea I liked CF as much as I like him now that I've seen that series and listened to the audiobook. He really is rather handsome, ahem. I need to watch The King's Speech, my husband said that was one of the best movies he's ever seen.
I'll just have to keep an eye out for this one!

He does a brilliant job in The Kings Speech. Have you seen him in Bridget Jones Diary? Tasty Not yet! Only so much time during the day. I watched The Importance of Being Earnest with him and Reese Witherspoon. It was free on Amazon Prime. What an odd movie. I know it's based on a classic piece of literature - I know I had to read it in high school and found it very confusing then. I need to watch BJD. It's not available for streaming on Amazon and I don't have Netflix - not sure if it's there either. I'll have to check out Redbox. Do you have Redbox where you are?

Redbox is a movie and video vending machine. They are usually found at grocery stores and drug stores. You can rent a movie or a video game for $1-$2 for a night. It's pretty inexpensive as long as you don't forget to return the darn thing the next day. If you forgot for 25 days or more, you get to keep it! That's because by that point you've paid Redbox more than twice what they paid for it and they're laughing their you know what off at you. It's pretty convenient - so much better IMO than the old, traditional video store.

Well, according to BB at the reunion, David Soul (Starsky and Hutch)--" another old buddy of Kate's" was earmarked to play Scarecrow...
